WHAT DOES “PROCESSING” MEAN?

Once a person has been arrested, they are taken to the local police station to be “booked and processed”. This general procedure includes:

Once finger prints are taken, the defendant is led to a jail cell. There, they are cut off to their cell phone, money, credit cards, and outside life.

HOW LONG DOES PROCESSING TAKE IN INDIANA JAILS?

The amount of time a single processing can take depends on certain contributing factors. The time it takes to process everyone depends on the size of the jail, the amount of employees and staff available, the particular charges the defendant was arrested on, and the amount of traffic coming into the jail. So in general, the processing time cannot be clearly determined, it can take anywhere from a couple hours, to a couple days.

CAN AN INDIANA BAIL BONDSMAN DECLINE SERVICE TO SOMEONE?

The quick answer to this is, yes. A bail bondsman takes on a huge responsibility when undertaking someone’s bond amount. If the person decides to skip their scheduled court dates, the bail bondsman is responsible for the full bond amount. This is obviously a huge risk, which is why a bail bondsman takes certain precaution before taking on a case. The bail bond company will interview the co-signer and assess whether or not there is certain risk involved. If they determine there is no risk for flight or other reasons, the bail bond company will take the case. If the bail bondsman feels there is too much risk involved, he/she can and will refuse service.

WHAT INORMATION SHOULD I HAVE READY BEFORE I CALL A BAIL BONDSMAN?

These facts will be particularly helpful for the bail bond company to aid in a faster bail bond process:
  1. What jail is the defendant being detained in? They’ll need the city, state and name of the jail.
  2. What is the bail amount set at? The bail bondsman can get this info from the jail if you don’t have it.  The bail price will allow the bail bond company to determine the amount it will cost to post bond and the requirements to get the person out of Jail.
  3. What is the entire name and booking number of the defendant in Jail? The bail bondsman needs this info in order to contact the jail.  The bail bondsman can also get the booking # for you if it was not available.
